Michael Donovan is a retired Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and former Director of Behavioral Health Services based in San Francisco, California. After more than 28 years working in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field, he retired in 2020 and has since focused on independent research, continuing education, and community advocacy. Throughout his career, Michael worked with individuals and families facing challenges related to addiction, recovery, anxiety, depression, trauma, and co-occurring mental health disorders. He spent the latter part of his career overseeing multidisciplinary treatment teams and helping develop evidence-based counseling programs for both outpatient and residential settings. He regularly reviews new studies, follows developments in treatment approaches, and writes educational content aimed at making complex behavioral health topics more accessible to the general public. When he's not writing, Michael enjoys hiking Northern California's coastal trails, exploring local history, and spending time with family and friends throughout the Bay Area.
