What is the most effective way to control anger in the moment, especially when someone pushes your buttons?

When I feel anger rising, I pause and take 5–10 deep breaths before saying anything. Most of the time, reacting immediately makes things worse. Giving myself even 30 seconds helps me respond instead of react.

For me, physical movement works best. I go for a quick walk, do pushups, or step outside. Moving my body helps release the tension so I can think clearly again.

Sometimes anger is connected to deeper stress or unresolved issues. Journaling or asking myself, “Why did this affect me so much?” helps me understand the root cause.
