How are chronic pain and mental health connected?

Chronic pain and mental health are closely connected because ongoing pain can cause stress, anxiety, and depression. Living with constant discomfort can make it harder to sleep, work, or enjoy daily activities, which can worsen mood and mental well-being.

Mental health issues can also influence how pain is perceived. People with anxiety or depression may experience pain more intensely, while chronic pain can increase the risk of developing mental health disorders. This creates a cycle where pain worsens mental health, and mental health worsens pain.
